About Us
History
Ellesmere Port Panthers Basketball Club was formed in 1997 as a result of demand from the very successful local High School basketball team. These teams, under the guidance of Mike Burton, had won every school national basketball event in their age group (both boys and girls) and wanted to develop their skills in the National club league. Kim Leedham and Jimmy McGinn then took on the coaching and managers role to move the club forward into the National league. Cheshire Jets and Panthers joined forces in 2008 to enable both teams to develop players to their full potential giving them a structured development plan through the sport from primary age, through to adulthood. The National league has a regional focus (ours is the North West) throughout the season (September - May). Junior Jets play teams from Manchester, Bury, Stockport, Liverpool, Barrow and as far up as Newcastle. The top two teams from each league go through to play offs against South, East and West and culminate in the Final Fours tournament organised by the RAF at Cosford and Cranwell. The league is organised into age groups, Junior Jets currently have 8 teams entered U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 boys, U14, U16 girls and a Womens squad playing in Division 2 with a Mens team playing in the Welsh league.
